It seems the American powers that be, and not the ordinary decent American people, want to introduce some stringent and draconian measures to stop internet piracy. These measures have all kinds of unkown far reaching effects, that have the potential to go way beyond any mere piracy. They are a serious threat to our freedoms and our whole way of life. The idea is very badly thought out, of course the creator of any artitistic work has the right be paid, but this is certainly not the way to go about it.
Some of the side effects amount to borderline totalitarianism, even Soviet-esque wouldn't be too strong a word. Of course what we need is, well there are plently enough internet pirates willing to spring up, but no actual pirate internet service providers. Pity there can't be hundreds of them in every neighbourhood, or in some obscure tropical island, or peice of rock near the arctic, or some boat or submarine or airship or somemthing. We thought the original internet was meant to be some system that couldn't go down in a nuclear war, because there would be inumerable alternative routes, and you could never close them all. Funny how the American authorities can seemingly control something a nuclear war couldn't. We need to create new internets, multiple, that can re invent itslelf or re-generate itself in infinite ways, so it goes back to the old wild west type internet we thought it was going to be.
Coalitions dangerous assualt on British justice system
The coalition is making a remarkably little mentioned, almost silent attack on the British justice system. It is trying to slip in under peoples radar, the alarming and dangerous, justice and secrecy bill, oops, justice and security bill. It will mean secret court hearings, citizens losing the ancient right to challenge evidence, and making it next to impossible to call govt agencies to account. It represents a frightening attack on investigate journalism. Ministers will be completely free to class anything that takes their fancy, as secret. It was inspired by heavy secret lobbying from MI5, who were stung and upset about being caught out regarding rendition. A governement can bring in scary new laws and swear it is only for terrorism, and then you see it being used against pressure groups like Fathers for justice, or local councils using anti terrorist measures to enforce wheelie bin collection rules, against little old ladies. This is an attack on some of the pillars of British justice that have stood for hundreds of years. Like Forgemasters, the health reforms, the attacks on the Forestry Comission and of all things, the National Trust, one is left thinking, David Cameron seems such a sensible man, he seems fairly decent, how in gods name did this ever get across Camerons desk. It seems he has ministers who are idiots, who wait for when Cameron is out of the office that day. David you really must try and read some the stuff that crosses your desk, and say hoy hang on a minute, I can't let this past, are you trying to ruin me or something?
